3-A GOLF PV girls triumphPVT
Pahrump Valley shot 469 to easily win the first Southern Nevada Class 3-A League girls' golf match of the season Thursday, at Mountain Falls. The two-time defending state champion Trojans were led by junior Ashley Keller, who shot an 84 on the par 72, 6,000-yard course. Courtney Salmon had 88, and Jasper Biggs had 94 for Pahrump Valley, which had Hailey Forry add 101 and Meghan Morales 102. Sierra Fitzgibbons had 123 and Shyanne Dixon 124 for coach Julie Floyd's team. Mesquite Virgin Valley was a distant second with 513, as Amanda Bulloch had 87, Samantha Bulloch 88, and Felisha Baeza 97. Hannah Bulloch had 107 and Dru Zolman 134 for the Bulldogs, who figure to give Pahrump Valley its toughest test of the fall campaign, which resumes Friday at Mesquite, in a match hosted by Virgin Valley. Merlin John, the sixth Virgin Valley starter, did not finish the 18-hole round. Las Vegas Faith Lutheran had 608, with Shawn Haggerty leading the Crusaders with 102. Ashley Lacher had 116, Rachel Aaron 123, Gina Reighard 124, and Remi Turok 143. Boulder City and Overton Moapa Valley did not have team scores. Ashley Vince paced BCHS with 90, while Margot Potter added 99. Bethany Smith had 114 and Bridget Ward 125 for the Eagles. Moapa Valley had no entries. NOTES -- The Southern 3-A regionals will be played Oct. 10 at The Palms in Mesquite, with Moapa Valley the host school ... The state tournament, hosted by Faith Lutheran, will be contested Oct. 16-17 at Palm Valley in Las Vegas ... Palm Valley, on Del Webb Drive, was co-designed by Billy Casper and Greg Nash ... It opened in 1989 as the first of three courses ... The par-72 course is Sun Valley's longest, playing to 6,850 yards and also ranks as the toughest. |
