The Best in the Desert Racing Association's Vegas-to-Reno Off-road race starts at Johnnie today, with motorcycles and quads leaving at 6:30 a.m. and the cars and trucks taking off at 10:30 a.m.

The 560-mile route ends outside of Dayton, just off U.S. 50. In 2006, when the race started in Lincoln County, Larry Ragland and Brian Collins, driving a Class 1400 Chevy truck, won in 9 hours, 51 minutes, 7 seconds.

In comparison, that winning time was 25 minutes ahead of a Class 1500 Jimco, co-driven by Danny Ebberts and Dale Ebberts, who completed the course in 10:16:36. A Class 1200 Toyota was clocked in 11:03:48, with Gustavo Vildosola Jr. and Bryan Freeman behind the wheel.

In motorcycles, Mike Childress and Steve Hengeveld, aboard a Honda, won in 9:26:25. A four-stroke KTM, co-ridden by Christopher Blais and Nicholas Blais, finished in 10:29:43.

Wayne Matlock and Chad Prull, riding a Honda quad, were first in 10:59:24.

According to an entry list on the Web site, bitd.com, a Yamaha quad will be driven by Pahrump resident Shaun Moore, whose team will include Las Vegans Cody Mitchell and Shannon Powell.

In the 250 Amateur class, Pahrump's Jerry Ely, Scott Hildebrand, and Mark Hildebrand are entered.
