Robert Burnes Friends and family of Robert (Bob) Burnes will gather in a celebration of his life, 8 p.m., Sat., Aug. 25 at Valley Bar, 2101 E. Gamebird Road. (08/05/07) ![]() Edward Winston Holliday Edward Winston (Doc) Holliday, 72, passed away August 14, 2007 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. Edward was born July 10, 1935 in White Sulphur Springs, Mont. Ed served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until 1958 and retired to Pahrump nine years ago. He spent 16 years an industrial electrician for Kaiser Steel in Fontana, and retired after 14 years as an electrician for Navy Public Works. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Judith "Judy" Holliday; son Thomas Holliday of Victorville, Calif.; daughter, Traci Holliday of Pahrump; granddaughters, Crystal Holliday of Utah and Charlene Holliday of Pahrump, and grandson Cory Holliday also of Pahrump. Three sisters preceded him in death and two sisters, Elizabeth and Colleen survive him. "He will be greatly missed." Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Aug. 25, at St. Martins in the Desert. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice. (08/14/07) ![]() Marilyn Grace McMurty A memorial service for Marilyn Grace McMurty will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27 at the Moose Lodge, 1100 E. Second Street in Pahrump. Marilyn passed away at her home in Mesquite on Aug. 11. She was born Dec. 27, 1936 in Tulare, S.D. She grew up in Sedro Wolley, Wash., and was active in the 4-H Club, was a song leader, and Homecoming Queen at the local high school. Marilyn raised her family in Kenmore, Wash., where she was actively involved in her church choir, PTA, the Ryther Child Center and Seattle Sounders Booster Club. She graduated from Edmunds Community College with a degree in Travel and Tourism, and in 1986 moved to Pahrump to create Valley View Travel, Inc. and fulfilled her dream of having her own business. She helped the people and families of Pahrump and surrounding areas with their travel needs for 16 years before retiring in 2001. She was a 19 year member of the Women of the Moose and enjoyed being a part of The College of Regents. Her gentle caring way and generous heart made her very special and dear to all who knew her. Her son, Brian of Monroe, Wash.; daughter, Sharon of Pahrump; brother, Douglas Giessen and his wife Angel of Tacoma, Wash; brother Douglas Hammje and his wife Jody of Boones Mill, Va.; brother, Earl Giessen and his wife Suzie of Bow, Wash.; cousin, Shirley Peplow of Mesquite, and her grandchildren, Madeline, Chloe and Cassandra McMurty of Everett, Wash. survive her. Those wishing to make a donation in her memory may consider Mooseheart in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27. (08/11/07) Burton Wertz Burton Hughes Wertz, 91, passed away July 27, 2007. He was born in Julesburg, Colo. on July 10, 1916 and spent 27 years as a resident of Pahrump, Having moved here from Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked in air conditioning and refrigeration. He was of the Methodist faith. His daughters, Denise Dies and Barbara Ann Wasson; sons, Michael Wertz and Lloyd Ewalt; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive him. (07/27/07) Wanda Blohm Wanda M. Blohm, 86, passed away August 20, 2007 in Davis, Calif. She was born Nov. 29, 1920 in Sapulpa, Okla. and was a 14 year resident of Pahrump, having moved from Las Vegas. She graduated from Berryhill High School in Okla. in 1936, and later earned a diploma at the International Bible College in San Antonio, Texas where she studied for three years. Wanda worked for many years in the insurance field and retired as a Charted Property and Casualty Underwriter. She was Safeco's first female sales representative. She volunteered hours in community service and was on the Board of Directors at the Preferred RV Resort in Pahrump. She was later honored by having the hobby building named The Wanda Blohm Center. Wanda also served the Nevada State Legislature as a silver-haired representative/advisor. Wanda's late husband of 34 years, Walter B. Blohm, was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a non commissioned officer. He died Dec. 28, 2006. She is survived by her nephew, E. Glenn Kindle, Ph.D., of Colo.; her stepsons, Walter Blohm and David Blohm; her step-grandson, Walter Joshua Blohm; and dear friend and caregiver, Diane Abbott-Blohm, all of Calif. Services will be held at noon on Aug. 27, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. (08/20/07) ![]() Stephen Romeo Dr. Stephen "Steve" Romeo passed away Thursday Aug. 16, 2007 in his home in Las Vegas, from complications over an illness from which he suffered for the last several years. He was born Oct. 5, 1952 in Denver, Colo., and graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Steve was commissioned into the Merchant Marine Academy, where he spent one year. He graduated with a degree in zoology from UNR and attended Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Steve was a practicing veterinarian for seven years in Pahrump. He then worked in Elko for 25 years with his practice specializing in large animals. He retired several years ago for health reasons, moving back to Las Vegas. Steve is survived by his father, Dr. Donald J. Romeo; five brothers, Tom Romeo, Richard Romeo, Donald Romeo Jr. (wife Teri), Mark Romeo and Michael Romero; four sisters, Marcy Humm (husband Tom), Patty Romeo, Katie Jones and Polly Becker (husband Rob); eight nephews; and six nieces. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara L. (Byrnes) Romeo; and his sister, Terry Romeo. Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Avenue. Inurnment will follow at Palm Mortuary, 2600 S. Eastern Avenue. (08/16/07) Eve M. Riley Eve M. Riley, 74, passed away suddenly on August 17, 2007, at Desert Valley Regional Medical Center in Pahrump. She was born Feb. 2, 1933 in Calif. and was a six week resident of Pahrump, having moved from St. George, Utah. She had also lived in Las Vegas. She was a very loving Mother and wife, and in the past, had worked as a Realtor. Her husband, John Riley; daughters, Caroline (Tim) Earl of Northern Calif. and Kathleen (David Cook) Riley of Pahrump survive her. The memorial service was held at the Lee Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 21. (08/17/07) |
