Pahrump Valley's new volleyball coach, Amy Braach-Hart, will get plenty of good information about her team and some of the people it will face during the 2007 season, starting with the prestigious Las Vegas Invitational Aug. 24-25 and the Trojans' own tournament Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

In 2006, PV's girls played 17 matches in those two tournaments, finishing 11-6.

In the Las Vegas tournament are defending Southern Nevada Class 3-A League and regional champion Las Vegas Faith Lutheran and long-time rival Boulder City.

The Lady Trojans will play in Pool E at Green Valley High School in Henderson, with their matches against Hurricane, Utah; Las Vegas Silverado, and Clark, to be played on Aug. 24.

Championship and consolation pools will be formed for matches on Aug. 25, when bracket competition is also scheduled.

Pahrump Valley will play Aug. 24 against Silverado at 3:30 p.m.; Hurricane at 4:30 p.m., and Clark at 6:30 p.m.

Faith Lutheran is in Pool A and will play at Las Vegas High School against Skyline (Utah) and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. Boulder City is at Green Valley in Pool G, along with Henderson Coronado, Pine View (Utah), and Sierra Vista.

Matches on Aug. 25 begin at 8 a.m. at both Green Valley and Las Vegas, with bracket matches starting at 2:30 p.m.

Some teams could play as many as nine matches over two days.

In the Pahrump Valley Invitational, 10 teams will compete in two pools, and then in two bracketed tournaments.

In Pool A are Pahrump Valley, Class 2-A Las Vegas The Meadows, and 1-A teams from Beatty, Las Vegas Trinity Christian and Lake Mead Christian Academy.

Tonopah is in Pool B, as are Pahranagat Valley Alamo; Las Vegas Calvary Chapel; Faith Lutheran, and Las Vegas Mountain View Christian.

Host PVHS will open the tournament in the Trojans' gym at 2 p.m. Aug. 31 against The Meadows. Succeeding matches Friday will be against Lake Mead (3 p.m.), Beatty (4 p.m.) and Trinity Christian (6 p.m.)

Beatty, a 1-A Central Division team and coached by Mike Duszynski, will play Trinity at 2 p.m. in the PVHS gym; Pahrump Valley at 4 p.m. in the Ninth Grade Academy gym; Lake Mead at 6 p.m. in the main gym, and The Meadows at 7 p.m. on the PVHS court.

Tonopah, coached by Judi Boni, will play 2006 state 1-A runnerup Alamo at 2 p.m. Aug. 31 in the academy gym.

The Muckers will take on Faith Lutheran at 4 p.m. (main gym), Mountain View Christian (5 p.m., academy gym), and Calvary Chapel (8 p.m., main gym).

Mountain View Christian won the Maroon Division title last year. Gold Division champion Las Vegas Shadow Ridge will not return.

The top four seeds after Friday's pool matches will compete in the Gold (Championship) single-elimination bracket tournament, starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 1.

First-round Gold losers Saturday will drop into the consolation (Maroon Division) bracket, along with the No. 5 seeds after Friday's pool matches for a single-elimination tournament, starting at 10 a.m.

The Gold championship match will start at 2:45 p.m. Sept. 1. The Maroon title match is at 2 p.m. that day.
