Charles A. Hodel

Charles A. Hodel, a resident of Pahrump for the last several years, passed away August 8, 2007 after a long struggle with Alzheimer disease.

During his lifetime he worked for Andres French restaurant in Las Vegas as head chef. In New York, he was instrumental in establishing the kitchen at the Fountain Blue Hotel.

This kind, wonderful, generous man has left a big void in the lives of his friends.

Two daughters, four grandchildren and the two ladies who kept in touch throughout his illness; Ann Hudson and Dora Gastelum.

Dorthea E. Ruddell

Dorothea E. Ruddell (Holbrook) passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of August 8, 2007, at the age of 84. Dorothea was born August 17, 1922, to Clara and Bill Stevenson in Boone, Iowa. She attended several schools from Boone, Iowa, to Wyoming. Dorothea graduated form Riverton, Wyo., in 1937.

She married Don Mecham in Green River, Wyo., in 1939. Dorothea lived in Las Vegas in 1942, then a short stay in Reno, Nev., where she was one of the first women to "deal" roulette. In 1943, Dorothea settled in Tonopah.

Dorothea was later married to Dana Holbrook Jr. and lived throughout many Western States including several years in Boise, Idaho. She moved to Pahrump after the passing of her husband and spent several years there until she moved to Carlin, Nev., in 2005 to be closer to her grandchildren.

Dorothea had several hobbies and loves through out her life. They included years of painting and tap dancing. She enjoyed serving on clubs and organizations and dedicated many years to the Rebecca's and United Methodist Women's ministry.

Dorothea enjoyed entertaining guests and visitors, especially children who loved ice cream. She had a passion for traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Dorothea took pride in her heritage and sharing family roots with younger generations.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Mecham, Dana D. Holbrook, Jr. and "Rudy" Ruddell; sister June Howard; mother Clara Stevenson; father Bill Stevenson; and son Don Holbrook.

Dorothea is survived by her brother Billy Stevenson; grandson Dana Holbrook (Brandy); grandson Jon Shirley (JoBeth); granddaughter Malinda "Mac" Holbrook; granddaughter Cinde Bissa; great-grandchildren Miranda Boni, Lindsey Bissa, Jessica Shirley, Kylie Bissa, Jordan Holbrook, Bradley Holbrook, Anna Shirley; longtime friend Paul Bartok and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Carlin United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Graveside service will be held at the Tonopah Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Carlin United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 287, Carlin, NV 89822.

A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Aug. 18, at United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Highway 372. (08/08/07)

Sherry Ann Ogden

Sherry Ann Ogden, 41, passed away August 14, 2007 in Pahrump.

Born in Seattle, Wash., she moved to Pahrump where she held residence for the last 10 years.

She worked as a caretaker and was a spiritualist.

Her mother, Ellen Jacobsen of Pahrump, brothers; Larry Jackson and Hollis Morgan both of Seattle, Wash., survive her.

She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Ogden.

Services are held within our hearts.

Wilbur Crocker

Wilbur Crocker, 77, passed away August 11, 2007 in Vail Colo.

He was born in Nickerson, Neb.

In 2000, he retired as a Master welder, having received his education from Boise State College and San Jose State College.

He was a resident of Pahrump and of the Mormon faith.

Daughters, Jane Sobalvarro and Janet Martinez both of Las Vegas and sons, Gerry Crocker and Robyn Crocker both of Pahrump, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren survive him.

He is preceded in death by wife, Lillian Crocker, siblings; Glosna Grugg, Orville Crocker, Nova Rosedahl and Favoral Soderling.

A viewing Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., and services at 11 a.m. will be held at Pahrump Family Mortuary.

Raymond Jentz

Raymond Jentz, 79, passed away August 7, 2007 in Pahrump.

He was born in North Dakota, was an avid outdoors man and of the Methodist faith.

Military service in the Marines and Army led to his service during World War II and the Korean War.

His wife, Jeanna Jentz of Pahrump, daughters; Ilene Chaix of Dayton, Marjorie Nibert of California and Paula Jentz and Cheryl Jentz both of Pahrump, son; Gregory Jentz of Idaho, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Jentz and Marjorie Austin.
