10 teams in volleyball tourney

Pahrump Valley, along with Nye County rivals Beatty and Tonopah, will compete in the Trojans' invitational volleyball tournament Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

Pairings and times will be announced for the marathon event, to be contested in both the high school and Ninth Grade Academy gyms.

Also in the tournament are Las Vegas Calvary Chapel, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Lake Mead Christian Academy, Las Vegas Mountain View Christian, Pahranagat Valley Alamo, Las Vegas The Meadows, and Las Vegas Trinity Christian.

Pahrump Valley is in the Las Vegas Invitational Aug. 24-25; pairings and times will be announced.

Hawaii defeated Arizona 11-1 to win the Senior Little League West Regional baseball championship Wednesday, at Salem, Ore.

Hawaii will join Saipan, Luthuania, Venezuela, Michigan, Maine, Georgia, and Texas, plus a Canadian team to be determined, in the World Series Aug. 12-18 at Bangor, Maine.

Nevada champion Pahrump was 1-3 at Salem.

The Nevada State American Legion baseball tournament continues tonight at Wilson Stadium on the UNLV campus.

Semifinal games will be played at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., with opponents to be determined.

On Tuesday, Spring Valley eliminated Reno 9-6, while Bishop Gorman stopped Durango 9-5.

Wednesday, Silverado ousted Green Valley 13-5, with Durango defeating Spring Valley 8-4.

Thursday's matchups were Bishop Gorman vs. Durango and Coronado vs. Silverado.

The Nevada champion will advance to the Western regionals, to be played Aug. 16-20 at Kearns, Utah. Nevada will play a host Utah team in the first round of the tournament, which also includes New Mexico, Arizona, Hawaii, Colorado, California, and Utah.
