FISHING

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers are still catching stocked rainbows but warm daytime temperatures make the fish a little bit lethargic.

The means anglers have to fish during the cooler parts of the day when the fish are more active. Fish areas of deeper water where the fish try to escape the heat. Worms or prepared baits have been taking some fish.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

These are the dog days of summer for both fish as well as anglers. Those who are catching fish have been working structure in the lake. Look for largemouth bass and rainbow trout along rocks and weed beds.

Prepared baits, worms and mini marshmallows are generally good for trout. Plastic baits and hardware can be effective for bass.

LAKE MEAD

It's been another good week for anglers fishing the topwater in the area near Sand Island and Government Wash.

This fish are still on the smaller size, weighing in at one- to two-pounds. Cut bait has been working well for catfish in that same general area. Some anglers are pulling in stripers along the Boulder Beach.

Shad have moved into the area, but the bite has yet to really pick up. In the Overton Arm Fishermen have been catching striped bass near Stewart's Point and largemouth bass south of Echo Bay to Middle Point.

LAKE MOHAVE

Fishing action at Willow Beach has slowed for both trout and striped bass anglers though early risers are still catching limits of stocked rainbow trout.

PowerBait, flies and spinners have been catching the fish. The most productive hours are before 7 a.m. with the bite becoming sporadic as the morning progresses.

One boater reportedly reeled in a 4- and a 13-pound striper below Willow Beach. He was using a large plug that resembles a rainbow trout.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Fishing continues to be steady for both largemouth bass and rainbow trout but success requires active fishing techniques.

Trout have been feeding on the surface. Fly-fishermen and anglers casting a fly-and-bubble setup should be able to entice a few fish into biting. Bass anglers are finding good action for largemouth bass and are pulling fish from deep water.

URBAN PONDS

Catfish were planted at the five urban ponds last week. With daytime temperatures moderating somewhat, fishing action should begin to pick up. In addition to catfish, bluegill and largemouth bass can also be caught at Floyd Lamb and Sunset parks.

For bluegill fish a mealworm below a bobber, for bass try crankbaits or plastics, and for cats go to the bottom with prepared baits or night crawlers.
