Tonopah Speedway will host a Nevada State Championship demolition derby Saturday, with the payoff $5,000, believed to be the largest purse ever paid to a derby winner.

Pits and sign-ups for the event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the show beginning at 3 p.m. The demolition derby is sponsored by the Tonopah Truck Auto Plaza.

Entry prices are $75 pre-entry and $100 at the gate. Spectators will be admitted for $10 for adults, 6 to 12-year olds for $5, and under age five are free.

All competitors must use full-size American-made rear wheel drive passenger sedans. Station wagons are all right. All glass, chrome and trim must be removed. The dash and heater core must be removed.

Drivers must wear helmets whenever in the car on the track. Helmets must accompany cars through safety and tech inspection. The car number must be clearly visible on sides and roof.

Absolutely no reinforcement of car other than what is listed in these rules is allowed, and hitting the driver's door is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.

Doors and trunk must be welded or chained shut with a minimum 3/8-inch chain. Hoods must be bolted or chained shut.

The gas tank must be removed and replaced with a six gallon or less fuel container mounted securely in the back seat driver's side of the car.

The fuel line must run out of the fuel tank through a hole in the floor pan directly adjacent to the tank and under the car to the engine.

Two horizontal spreaderbars will be mounted in the car. The bars will be a minimum two inches outside diameter and a maximum six inches. Bars will be mounted 16 to 24 inches above floor pan.

One bar will be installed behind the front seat to the vertical B pillars. The other bar will be installed in the dash area in front of the driver.

The radiator must be mounted in stock position. Exhaust zoomies extended through the hood are optional. Up to two batteries may be used, mounted securely in the passenger side front floor area.

Batteries must be securely covered with wood or rubber to prevent battery spillage contacting the driver. Stock seat belt with shoulder harness is the minimum driver restraint required.

The driver side door only may be filled with concrete. Bumpers must be welded or chained to car's frame with a minimum 3/8-inch chain.

Any gas charged cylinders in bumpers must be relieved of pressure by drilling a hole in the cylinder. Body mounts on full frame cars may be removed and body bolted directly to frame. There can be no electrical fuel pumps.
