Letters to the Editor
The miracle I would like to thank Desert View Regional Medical Center for making the decision that saved my husband's life. After Louie Quinteros was critically injured at work, the hospital quickly accessed the situation and flew him to UMC Trauma Center. After five and a half hours of surgery to remove a piece of metal from his jugular, Dr. Coates was able to save his life. Through the grace of God and all of your prayers, Louie is alive and recovering. A special thanks to Dan and Vicky for all their help during this time. And I certainly could not have made it without Mike and Heather (P.V. Disposal) who stayed with me while Louie was in surgery. Again, thanks to all who did their part in saving his life. REBECCA QUINTEROS Vote them out every time With hope for a return to constitutional government, I write this: The government is here to protect, benefit and help you. Don't you believe it. Our forefathers started a government that was here to help, benefit and protect us, the citizens of this country. The bureaucrats and their sycophants are here to keep their jobs and increase their earning power no matter how much it costs us, the "citizens" of this government. Blurring the difference between illegal and legal occupants of this country is only one example of smoke and mirrors as not one bureaucratic employee or elected official will be held accountable and tried for multiple murders in the collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis/St. Paul is another. Someone (one person) in government stopped action being taken to correct the defective parts of that bridge that is being reported as being found defective in 2005. That is two years ago. Only one person did that. Only one person could have overridden and changed the findings of whatever insane group of bureaucratic, protect themselves nuts, commission, or whatever name they gave to the group of parasites that decided to delay the saving of citizen lives. Where is the constitutional stated and guaranteed "benefit" to our citizens that are now dead, that document our forefathers crafted. Watch the very "politically correct" CYA (cover your ass) job that will now ensue so that no one is responsible for not looking out for our lives as we "citizens" crossed that bridge. The only benefits I see are that now we have fewer mouths to feed. Fewer Social Security benefits to pay. Less pollution as they will not burn gasoline and require electricity to be generated for them. Less strain on the water supply. Less cost to handle sewage and on and on. Are you next? Will you be eliminated by government bureaucrats not looking out for your "constitutionally" guaranteed benefit to life and the right to pursue happiness. Mainly life. I have a solution: Do not vote in any election for anyone that has previous experience in government. That means that every two years government will change and be so busy learning their jobs that they will not be able to produce any new laws which bureaucrats can find ways to deny you your forefather created "constitutional" rights and benefits. Congress having 30 percent change every two years certainly could be to our benefit. Certainly it could not be any more stupid or crooked than it is now. Shall I list stupidity? No. Not necessary as you know it as well as I do and probably a few more. Especially if you have applied to any government agency, federal, state or local, for any help or benefit as the "constitution" guarantees and states. JOHN ANDERSON Gun control in public meetings To the lady who wrote the letter regarding banning guns at public meetings: Let me start off by saying that I found your letter well written and commend you on your determination to take a stand on this issue. I view "guns at public meetings" much the same as you do; in a civilized society there is no need for them. However, I have two basic schools of thought along that line that I would like to share with you: (1) If guns are banned from public meetings, then only the "law-abiding" citizen will be disarmed and defenseless. History has shown time and time again that all the gun control laws in the world do not stop a criminal from possessing a gun when they want to do so. (2) You are absolutely correct in the fact that a gun does not make a person safe. A gun, with proper training and practice with said gun, does give the bearer a sense of security and the ability to defend himself or herself in a deadly confrontation. Last but not least, while it is perfectly legal at this time for a person to carry a gun to a "public meeting" in Nye County, I do agree that there is, generally speaking, no need to do so. I am an honorably retired law enforcement officer with over 26-1/2 years of training and experience, and when I carry my weapon in a public place, I do so concealed. I do so because I do not want to alarm or offend those who are against the possession of firearms and, most importantly, because I do not wish the "bad guys" to know that I have the ability to defend myself or someone else as necessary. I believe (and this is just a personal belief) that anyone who has the right to carry a concealed weapon should not carry said weapon in the open in a public place such as a county commission or town board meeting. In closing, I would like to say that I can only hope that those in power who would ban the carrying of weapons in a public meeting give some thought on how to enforce their new law. Otherwise, as I have said before, only the "law-abiding" citizen will be disarmed, because the criminals do not care about the law. We must all remember, no matter how much we dislike it, guns do not kill people, people kill. Simply put, firearms are not the problem, but a small minority of people who misuse them are. Again, history has demonstrated that people were killing each other long before guns were invented, the only difference were the weapons they used. ERNIE HATLEY Honored family On July 27, 2007, our family was honored when our dad, Dan J. Bailey's plaque was the first veteran to bestow the Veteran's Memorial wall. This honor never would have been accomplished without the Marine Corps League, volunteers, and especially, Sgt. Jose A. Telles, who arranged this ceremony. He and many others have created such a beautiful, serene and heart-warming place for all [of us] to remember our heroes for generations to come. It is a shame our politicians in Pahrump do not have the same feelings. The memorial museum was intended for memorials for loved ones, not for monetary gain. Shame on you. Sgt. Telles, fellow volunteers, our family sends you love, thanks and sincere regards for all of your hard work and dedication for all veterans. Pahrump Valley Times, thank you. THE BAILEY FAMILY |
