Fishy phone probe leads to arrest
By CHRISTINA EICHELKRAUT
The Nye County Sheriff's Office Street Crime Unit recently closed a five-month long investigation in harassing phone calls allegedly made by Paul Vivirito, 53, of Las Vegas. Vivirito allegedly made numerous obscene phone calls to six different women within the Pahrump and Las Vegas valleys, using his computer to hijack other people's phone numbers and in some cases disguise his voice. According to the sheriff's office, at one point Vivirito allegedly cloned a sheriff's work cell phone number and pretended he was the officer's partner to get additional information from his victim. The victim did not believe Vivirito, however, and immediately reported the incident. In addition, Vivirito impersonated people by using different names on pre-paid phones. Vivirito was arrested Tuesday, July 31, at his Las Vegas residence and transported to the Nye County Detention Center. He was booked on charges of aggravated stalking, impersonating another/stealing, and impersonating an officer. The investigation is still going on and the sheriff's office said additional charges will be filed. After Vivirito's arrest, Las Vegas authorities granted a search warrant and Vivirito's computer was seized and taken as evidence. |
