BASEBALL Pahrump to battle OregonPVT
The Pahrump Little League Senior Division baseball team fell to 0-3 in the West Regionals at Salem, Ore., Wednesday, bowing 16-6 to Washington. Pahrump will close its week-long stay today, facing Oregon, 0-2, at 1 p.m. in a Pool A contest. Previous losses were to Southern California (10-5) and Montana (16-1). In other games Tuesday and Wednesday, it was Southern Cal 6, Washington 4; Montana 15, Oregon 8; Arizona 7, Idaho 0, and defending regional champion Hawaii 7, Northern Cal 2. In Pool A through Wednesday, Montana and Southern Cal were 2-0; Washington was 2-1, Oregon 0-2 and Nevada 0-3. In Pool B, Hawaii was 3-0, with Northern Cal 2-1, Arizona 1-1, Idaho 0-2, and Alaska 0-2. Hawaii will play Idaho at 4 p.m. and Northern Cal will take on Arizona at 7 in other games today. Saturday's games are Southern Cal vs. Montana and Idaho vs. Alaska. In the Silver Division American Legion baseball playoffs at Durango High School, Las Vegas Faith Lutheran defeated Calvary Chapel 11-3; Rancho edged Sierra Vista 8-7; Sierra Vista eliminated Calvary Chapel 7-0, and Rancho nipped Faith Lutheran 4-3. Sierra Vista played Faith Lutheran Thursday, with the winner to take on Rancho at 5 p.m. today. If Rancho loses, a second game will be played at 8 p.m. Pahrump Valley did not qualify for the Silver tournament, finishing 11-8 after going 11-13 in its inaugural season in 2006. The Nevada American Legion State tournament (Gold Division) begins Saturday at Wilson Stadium, on the UNLV campus. No. 5 seed Las Vegas Hawks (Silverado) will play No. 4 Coronado Cougars at 5 p.m., with No. 8 Green Valley Gators Post 40 facing No. 1 Las Vegas Lions (Sierra Vista) at 8 p.m. Saturday, No. 6 Reno Knights will play No. 3 Southern Nevada Titans (Bishop Gorman) at 5 p.m., and at 8, it will be No. 7 Durango Post 76 vs. No. 2 Tufflite Grizzlies (Spring Valley). The tournament runs through Aug. 11, with games at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day except Aug. 10 and 11, when the semifinals and finals will be contested. |
