They say the neon lights are bright

On Broadway.

They say there's always magic in the air.

Performing on Broadway or on the stage in the Pahrump Valley High School auditorium ... It's all the same -- if there is a joy in being in the spotlight.

It's about show business, about dreams, about seeking a different perspective through self-expression. And Saturday night, it didn't matter whether the performers were 6 or 16, it was about entertaining an enthusiastic audience.

Several girls and boys went on stage in the Artistic Centre's production of "Broadway," a series of dancing and singing vignettes featuring the music of some of the greatest productions presented on Broadway -- including "The King and I," "Rent," "Hair," "Sweet Charity," "The Lion King," "Cinderella," "The Nutcracker," and "A Chorus Line."

With Mary Albin the executive director and Kelly Thompson the artistic director producing the almost two-hour-long show, children from several dance styles performed. There was ballet, jazz, tap and the intricate moves that create the mood of the gypsies seeking a place in Michael Bennett's "A Chorus Line."

Each performance was done with energy and excitement, and probably with a few butterflies in the stomach of the dancers and singers, who had the presence to blow kisses and wave to the audience.

Amanda Albin and Kelly Thompson, the instructors, helped produce a wide range of routines that drew rousing applause throughout the evening..
