You can lend a helping paw

The cats and Best Friends volunteers still need volunteers and supplies, and it's never too late to help.

The kitties are in desperate need of Friskies canned food and scoopable kitty litter, both of which there can never be too much.

In addition, medium and large-sized, hard-sided carrying cases, suitable for airline travel, are also needed, as well as stainless steel bowls.

And as any cat lover knows, toys are always welcome and needed.

Wal-Mart gift cards, for small purchases needed during rescue operations, are also welcome.

The volunteers could also use some help while rescuing the cats in the hot sun, so bottled water or Gatorade are appreciated.

But perhaps most important, the cats need love and attention.

Best Friends is currently accepting adoption applications for anyone willing to turn one of the feline victims into the pampered, spoiled house cat it deserves to be.

To volunteer or adopt a cat, just stop by the shelter, located on 2171 E. Bond Street

Take Homestead Road down to Silver Street (directly across from the Chicken Ranch), and turn right.

Turn right again onto Vicki Ann Road, and Bond Street, a gravel and dirt road, will be on your right.

You'll know you've reached the sanctuary (a little bit off the road on your right) when you see the RVs with banners welcoming volunteers.
