2007 BASEBALL SEASON

Pahrump Valley won 11 of 19 games in its second season in the Nevada Youth Baseball Association American Legion Silver Division. The Trojans were ranked ninth among 22 teams in the division.

The season came to a close last Wednesday, with Pahrump Valley defeating Las Vegas Durango 10-2 and bowing 9-8 to Bishop Gorman at Peccole Park.

Rancho, 19-2; Faith Lutheran, 17-4; Calvary Chapel, 17-4, and Sierra Vista, 17-4, advanced to the Silver Division playoffs, which started Tuesday and will run through Friday at Durango High School.

In first-round games, Calvary Chapel, the No. 3 seed, played No. 2 Faith Lutheran, with No. 1 Rancho taking on No. 4 Sierra Vista. Games will be played today at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Thursday, at 8 p.m., and Friday at 5 p.m. (8 p.m., if necessary). Durango High School is located on Rainbow Blvd, just north of the I-215 interchange.

Other records in the Silver Division were Shadow Ridge, 16-5; Liberty, 15-6; Legacy, 13-7; Foothill, 13-8; Eldorado, 11-10; Palo Verde, 10-11; Del Sol, 10-11; Arbor View, 9-11; Centennial, 8-12; Green Valley, 9-12; Bishop Gorman, 7-13; Cheyenne, 7-14; Chaparral, 5-15; Vo-Tech, 4-14; Western, 6-15; Durango, 1-20, and Desert Pines, 1-20.

Sierra Vista won the Gold Division pennant with a 23-2 record; the Lions' three Legion teams were a collective 55-11 this season, with the Juniors finishing 16-5.

Also advancing to the state playoffs -- to be contested Aug. 4-11 at Wilson Stadium on the UNLV campus -- were Spring Valley, 18-7; Bishop Gorman, 18-8, and Coronado, 17-8. A Northern Nevada team, along with three other southern squads will complete an eight-team double-elimination bracket.

The Northern team will be the No. 6 seed.

The other southern representatives are likely to be Durango, 14-9; Silverado, 15-10, and Centennial, 12-12.

Tournament games -- all nine innings -- are at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 4; 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 5; 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 6; 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 7; 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 8, and 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 9.

Games on Aug. 10 will be played at times to be announced. The title contest is at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11.

Silverado, 17-4, will represent Nevada in the Junior Legion Mid-States tournament at Jennings, La., Aug. 3-6.

Silverado will play Louisiana in a first-round game Friday. Also in the tournament are Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Jennings.

Faith Lutheran's Junior Division team was 4-16.
