Beatty to host Warren-Walker Thursday night
Finally, Beatty's volleyball team gets to play at home, facing Nevada Class A Central Division rival Henderson Warren-Walker in two best-of-three matches, starting at 4 p.m. in the Hornets' gym. After trips to Pahrump, Pyramid Lake and a couple other Nevada locales, the Hornets have played at Lone Pine and Big Pine, Calif., the last two weekends -- and lost Saturday, Big Pine, dominating the play at the net and serving, defeated Beatty 25-16, 25-14 and 25-11, dropping the Hornets to 6-8 this season. "Big Pine was doing a good job serving and we were not able to serve-receive like we can," said Mike Duszynski, the Beatty coach. "And most of all, Big Pine was beating us at the net, getting to the ball first and hitting it before we could. Big Pine had a couple bigger girls, but it wasn't their blocking or kills that hurt us; it was their getting to the ball before we did. "If there is one positive thing, our younger players are getting a lot of experience," said the veteran coach. "Four of our six starters are either a sophomore or a junior, and we have another young player coming in as a substitute for a senior." Duszynski is anxious to see how his team responds, not only in playing at home for the first time this season, but how they will compete in 1-A division matches. "We go only once a week for the next five weekends, all in division matches," said the coach. |
