Poker free roll tourney Oct. 14

The eighth in a series of World Series of Poker No-limit Hold'em poker tournaments will be played Oct. 14 in the Nugget, starting at 4 p.m.

To qualify for the October free roll tournament, players must complete at least 40 hours of live play in the Nugget in September.

Other free-roll dates are Nov. 11, Dec. 9 and Jan. 13, with the final tournament tentatively scheduled for Feb. 24. The top 20 in points will play in the finals, with a seat in the 2007 World Series of Poker at stake.

The scoring is 10 points to win, five for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth; a total of $2,100 in prize money is distributed in each monthly tournament.

ASA running umpire school

The Amateur Softball Association is running its regional umpire school Oct. 21-22 in Las Vegas.

Dale gets ace, earns big trip

Terry Dale, a Pahrump resident, recently scored a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at the Lakeview Executive Golf Course, while competing in the second annual Hawaiian Open.

Dale won the option of a deluxe Hawaiian vacation for two or a cash prize of $5,000. There was no announcement on which choice was made.

Next junior golf tourney Oct. 7

The Pahrump Valley Junior Golf Association fall-winter-spring tournament season will resume Oct. 7, with the event for boys and girls 7 to 18 years old slated at the Executive course.

Other dates are Nov. 4, Dec. 2, Jan. 6, Feb. 3, March 3, April 21 and May 5.

The 2007 PVJGA clinic will be June 11-12-13, with the summer season starting June 18. Subsequent tournaments will be June 25, July 2, July 9, July 16 and July 23. The 2007 Gene Goins Memorial is July 30-31.
