Reno keeps lead in Times ratings; Spring Creek top Class 3-A team
Now, the Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School football ratings are starting to develop some significance. It's the third week for these ratings, and some teams will be playing their fifth games of the regular season -- which will have six weeks remaining after this weekend's games. Class 4-A Sierra League leader Reno retained its No. 1 rating, after the Huskies racked city rival Wooster 44-6 last Friday. Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial is at No. 2, with the Spartans now 4-0 and in first place in the Sunset Region Northwest Division. Defending state 4-A champion Las Vegas, after losing two games to out-of-state rivals, is back at .500 (2-2) and is No. 3. In the Class 3-A rankings, Spring Creek is No. 1, after the Spartans overpowered Pahrump Valley 47-6 Friday. The Spartans, 3-0, play at Overton Moapa Valley, 1-2, tonight. Mesquite Virgin Valley, 3-1, jumped to No. 2, after the Bulldogs socked defending state 2-A champion Lincoln County, 43-6. Battle Mountain, 4-0, is the top 2-A team, as a result of the Longhorns' 27-0 rout of previously undefeated Yerington in a Northern League game Friday. Second in the 2-A ratings is Pershing County Lovelock, 3-0 after the Mustangs tamed Mineral County Hawthorne 46-8 in a league contest last week. Pahranagat Valley Alamo, winner of 16 straight games, is No. 1 in Class A (Eight-Man). The 2005 state champion Panthers ripped Eureka 56-6, ruining the Vandals 2-0 start. Carlin is ranked No. 2 Like Alamo, the Railroaders are 4-0, but something has to give tonight. The Panthers and Railroaders clash at Alamo, with the No. 1 ranking, as well as continuing a run to an undefeated season at stake. Tonopah, 2-1 after belting Wells 30-12 Friday, is ranked at No. 3. The Muckers' loss came in a 62-58 shootout with Carlin two weeks ago. Class 4-A games in Las Vegas were played Thursday night because of Jewish holy day observances today. The matchups included No. 10 Shadow Ridge at No. 2 Cimarron-Memorial, No. 7 Cheyenne at Foothill, and Rancho at No. 6 Sierra Vista, as well as Henderson Liberty at No. 3 Las Vegas Del Sol, No. 5 Silverado at Basic, and No. 3 Las Vega at Desert Pines. Also Thursday, No. 1 Reno was at home against South Tahoe. Tonight, it's No. 4 Sparks Reed at Elko, and on Saturday, No. 9 Reno North Valleys goes to Reno Wooster.
