Muslim says West has 'drive to innovate'
WASHINGTON -- While her security contingent waits outside the Georgetown restaurant, Ayaan Hirsi Ali orders what the menu calls "raw steak tartare." Amused by the redundancy, she speculates that it is intended to immunize the restaurant against lawyers, should a customer be discommoded by that entree. She has been in America only two weeks. She is a quick study.



Sifting through the school debate
We just had an uncommonly spirited local school election where I live. One candidate spent more than $30,000 in a district encompassing a couple of neighborhoods. On election day, opposing forces manned busy intersections waving signs. Folks shouted through bullhorns, producing utterances wholly indecipherable.


Straying from family car evokes feelings of guilt
There are many reasons for temporarily renting a car. You might need extra space for a road trip, you might fly out of town and need transportation at your destination, or your car could be temporarily incapacitated.
