Crystal Heights citizens express concerns about planned homes

CRYSTAL -- Daniel and Charlotte LeVar of Pahrump recently wrote a letter to the Nye County Commissioners expressing concern about future development plans for 40 acres located near their home in the Crystal Heights area, about 5 miles outside of Crystal.

The letter requests that commissioners answer specific questions about the impact that development of the land will have on the area.

"I don't feel as though I'm getting enough answers," said Daniel LeVar.

The land, which was purchased by Harry Seibt from Lee and Eleanor White, is planned to be the future site of a number of houses.

Among the LeVar's and their six neighbors' main concerns are water, such as whether a septic and water system will be installed or if a well would be put on each lot.

They are also concerned about the increased traffic that will occur at Highway 95 and White Boulevard, both because of the intersection itself as well as the dust that would be generated from an increase in the number of vehicles traveling down the dirt road that turns off of Highway 95 at Mile Marker 17.

Further concerns include whether or not the Terrible's off-road race will have to be re-routed or discontinued, and if the development will require road construction that the residents themselves will end up having to pay for.

"Those are just questions that pop into your head," said LeVar. "We're not going to wait any longer for answers. We want to know what they're going to do and how they're going to handle it."

Upon receiving the letter, which was sent to numerous Nevada representatives, Commissioner Roberta Carver said she intends to have a meeting with the residents to address their concerns, as well as other jurisdictional issues that are present in the area as well.
