SPECIAL TO THE PVT

Not much has changed in the 10 months since Pahranagat Valley Alamo clobbered Eureka 52-8 in the Nevada Class A state championship football game at Las Vegas.

In a report from the Web site, nevprep.com, the teams met again Friday night at Alamo, and the Panthers won 56-8 in a game that ended with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter because of the Nevada 1-A's 45-point mercy rule.

Alamo (4-0) amassed 290 rushing yards while rolling to its 16th straight win while holding Eureka (1-2) to 57 total yards. Jared Wadsworth rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, William Vea added 81 yards and a score on five carries, and Chase Leavitt added 66 yards and two TDs on eight carries.

Alamo led 28-0 after one quarter and 48-8 at the half. Kord King's 65-yard run in the second quarter accounted for Eureka's only touchdown.

Friday night, the Panthers will host Carlin, which ran its record to 4-0 by defeating visiting Las Vegas Mountain View Christian 52-14, as Pete Armendariz rushed for 251 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Armendariz, who scored seven TDs in last week's 62-58 win over Tonopah, now has a state-leading 17 touchdowns and 756 yards on 58 carries in four games.

Carlin, which won the 1-A state title in 2002 and 2003, has lost only three games to in-state opposition during the past 4 1/2 years, but two of them were one-sided defeats at the hands of Alamo last year.

Mountain View (2-2) kept Carlin largely in check during the first half, trailing only 14-0 at the break, but the Railroaders broke the game open with 21 points in the third quarter.

The Saints' Andrew Ogris rushed for 198 yards and both of his team's touchdowns on 21 carries, and had 12 tackles on defense. Ogris has rushed for 482 yards on 59 attempts, with four TDs.

In another 1-A non-league game, Mitch Lehner passed for 242 yards and four touchdowns as Tonopah defeated Wells 30-12. Lehner, who threw for 481 yards second-highest total in state history and six touchdowns in a 62-58 loss to Carlin last week, hit Dakota Smith five times for 125 yards and three TDs. He also ran for 90 yards in 12 carries from his shotgun position.

In three games, Lehner, a senior quarterback, has completed 65 of 132 passes for 892 yards and 13 touchdowns, with seven interceptions. Wideout Tyler Bessire leads the Muckers in receptions with 22 and 277 yards.

Guy Wagner was in on 19 tackles (12 solo) and Mike Dolfin had 11 tackles and a sack for the Muckers, who led 30-6 at halftime.

Smith Valley ran past Nye County's Round Mountain 44-0, dropping the Knights to 1-3 on the season.

Henderson Warren-Walker defeated Keystone Academy 34-0 to boost its record to 2-0, while Laughlin stopped Indian Springs, 24-8.

Big Pine next for Hornets, 2-1 after 36-14 win

PVT

The Beatty High School football team continues to be an offensive machine in the 2006 season.

The Hornets ran away to a 36-14 victory at Lone Pine, Calif., Friday, boosting their record to 2-1. In those three games, Beatty has scored 122 points and surrendered 92, including 64 in a 20-point loss to undefeated Laughlin (4-0).

Beatty, out of the Nevada Class A Central Division, is back on the road Saturday, playing Big Pine, Calif. The Warriors are 3-0 this season, with victories against Coleville (60-22), Lone Pine (49-0) and Avalon (27-6).

Big Pine is coached by Mark Tillemans and compete in the Hi-Lo Eight-Man league in the Southern Section.

"Big Pine, according to what I've been told, is a well-coached team that has size and speed," said Gus Sullivan, Beatty's first-year coach. "And they like to go to the air offensively."

Big Pine is in a league with Lee Vining, Trona, Baker, Owens Valley Independence and Ridgecrest Immanuel Christian.

"Size and speed are things we lack at the moment," said Sullivan, whose team "did really good defensively against Lone Pine. The weather was awful -- cold and windy -- so it stopped us from doing a lot of things we wanted to do."

Matt Everts, Joe Serrano, Tony Hielman, Junior Dare and Kyle Marchand scored Beatty's touchdowns, with Everts the leading rusher with 105 yards.

"We're getting our timing down pretty well and things are going well, both offensively and defensively for us," said Sullivan. Defensively, Josh Jerkins and Jason Thompson had two sacks each, with David Tom recovering a fumble for Beatty.
