Stroke screening Sept. 29

Residents living in and around Pahrump can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke. Life Line Screening will be at the Pahrump Moose Lodge No. 808 Sept. 29 at 1100 East Second St. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m.

A stroke is ranked as the third leading killer in the world and the second among women. Through preventive screenings, the risk of having a stroke can be greatly reduced.

Screenings are fast and painless. They involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta; and hardening of leg arteries, which is a strong predictor of heart disease.

Also offered for men and women is a bone density screening to assess the risk for developing osteoporosis.

Each screening requires ten minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package is $109. Sign up for a complete vascular package and include the osteoporosis screening and the cost is $129.
