After attempting to escape a second time, Jesus Rodriguez, identified by authorities as the shooter of Deputy Harry Williams, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in Mecca, Calif., an unincorporated area located southeast of Palm Springs near the northern end of the Salton Sea.

PETA, the well known, some would say notorious, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has stepped into the animal cruelty case involving Tana Naas, from whom dozens of animals were seized nearly a year ago.

The Nye County Sheriff's Street Crime Unit received information Sept. 13, that two subjects were allegedly growing marijuana at 3200 E. Paiute Blvd., and members of the Narcotic Task Force and Street Crime Unit hastened to that location.

Stolen property recovered at a Pahrump residence
Nye County Sheriff's Deputy David Boruchowitz was dispatched Sept. 16 to an address for a report of a burglary and larceny of a four-wheeler and dirt bike.

LAS VEGAS -- Residents of southern Nevada are being asked to "lend a hand to the lands" during the month of September in celebration of the 13th annual National Public Lands Day. The event is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and protect public lands.

Al and Mary Balloqui will be riding a trolley that formerly traveled the Las Vegas Strip in the Pahrump Fall Festival parade this year and giving rides at the Wild West Extravaganza at the Saddle West Casino this weekend.
