PREP FOOTBALL Reno takes lead in Times ratings
Reno's Huskies, winners of their first two games, have moved into the No. 1 spot in the Pahrump Valley Times Nevada High School Football ratings. In the second week of the ratings, Reno, a Sierra 4-A League power, replaces defending state champion Las Vegas in the lead. The Wildcats are 1-2, having lost to two out-of-Nevada opponents in non-Sunrise Regional 4-A games. Las Vegas is now at No. 7, trailing No. 2 Sparks Reed, No. 3 Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial, No. 4 Reno Bishop Manogue, No. 5 Las Vegas Mojave and No. 6 Galena. Completing the top 10 are No. 8 Reno McQueen, No. 9 Las Vegas Silverado, and No. 10 Las Vegas Cheyenne. No Class 3-A team has warranted being elevated into the Top 10. The top-ranked 3-A team this week is undefeated Dayton (3-0), with Sparks and Spring Creek tied for No. 2 at 2-0. In Class 2-A, Battle Mountain reigns No. 1 this week, with Pershing County Lovelock, 2-0, second. Pahranagat Valley Alamo, 3-0, drilled Fredonia, Ariz., 60-8 a week ago and retains the No. 1 spot in Class A (eight-man football). Carlin, because of its wild and wacky 62-58 win against Tonopah, is No. 2; the Railroaders are 3-0. Tonopah is No. 5 this week, trailing No. 3 Eureka and No. 4 Laughlin.
