LAKE MEAD

"Lots of fish, mostly small stripers," are being seen this week according to reports from the Boulder Basin area.

Top water action continues to be good from the 33 Hole to Government Wash.

Most of the fish are being taken near the surface using shad or anchovies, but anglers have also been doing fairly well by jigging the bait closer to the bottom.

Floating/surface lures have also been effective for stripers during boils. Shore fishing, for catfish and stripers, has been improving this week for anglers using baits when the shad have been in the coves. Boaters have been successful near the tires at Lake Mead Marina using baits and lures for stripers.

The fishing dock at Horsepower Cove is scheduled to be moved mid-September to the PWC Beach (Personal Water Craft).

LAKE MOHAVE

The Willow Beach area was busy over the weekend with both recreational boaters and anglers enjoying the lake. Rainbow trout were planted on Sept. 1 and by Sunday had scattered into cooler areas of the lake. No stripers or catfish were reported caught over the weekend.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Largemouth bass fishing has been excellent this week in Cold Springs, Haymeadow, Adams-McGill, and Dacey Reservoirs.

The average size for the bass has been between 10 and 11 inches, with many 12 to 14 inchers.

Various lures and baits have been used; worms were preferred. Daytime temps have dropped into the low to mid 80's with overnight temps in the low 40's.

Trout fishing continues to be slow, but should start improving by the end of the month with the cooler water temperatures.

Daytime temperatures have been in the upper 80's while evenings have been dropping into the 50s.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Anglers fishing the lake this weekend had fair success for trout. A few fly fishers testing the lake before the upcoming fly fishing tournament on Saturday, caught several trout using green Cave Lake specials, and olive wooly buggers.

The fish caught were between nine and 15 inches. Anglers say white Powerbait is still successful for bait fishermen.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Though the water level is low, anglers continue to do well for crappie, largemouth bass, and trout. The best success is in the deeper waters off the dam and in the center of the lake.

Several anglers did well over the weekend using a variety of flies, such as the Cave Lake special and olive-colored wooly buggers.

Bait fishermen have been successful using worms and Powerbait from the dam.

URBAN PONDS

Catfish are being caught by anglers using nightcrawlers and various catfish baits.

Bluegills and other small sunfish are biting on mealworms and nightcrawlers and should to be plentiful until water temperatures start to drop in mid-October.
