The Nye County Sheriff's Office is currently in the process of testing a 2006 Dodge Charger to see if it might would want to use that vehicle in the future. Sheriff's personnel are looking into the Charger because it is a V6, or two fewer cylinders than the Ford Crown Victorias that are used by the force. That might allow for some savings in fuel costs.

The vehicle is tested by allowing officers to drive it on the roads and then report back on their impressions.

There is one take-home cruiser for each of the approximately 40 officers of the Sheriff's Office. Once a new vehicle is selected, the entire fleet would not be replaced immediately, but a number of cruisers would be replaced using funds from the budget approved by the Nye County Commissioners.
