Need or want a part for your classic car?

Or, perhaps, you just like the looks of the old classics.

Then be sure to visit the Pahrump Racetrack, Saturday, Sept. 23, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., for a car show and swap meet -- check 'em out.

The Unclub Boys, a group of baby-boomers having flashbacks to their teenage years, created their 'unclub' based on the common interest in automobiles.

Founded in 2000, the unclub now has 90 members, including wives. Ron Compton, who is no stranger to founding car clubs (he started several in Washington and Oregon), moved to Pahrump in 2000 and found a few old friends, so he put out the word to find others, and soon the 'unclub' was born.

The Unclub Boys have no dues, no fees, no hassles and no issues (except cars). Compton said, "It keeps the '50s alive. We travel all over the country to gatherings to show our cars and meet others who love them ... The swap meet can actually work as an environmental cleanup effort by folks bringing old parts lying around their homes for sale or trade."

The unclub also has motorcycle enthusiasts as members. Rich Uhl, unclub treasurer, said, "It's the closest you'll ever be to being 16 again. It's not just a hobby, it's a way of life."

The group gets together every Wednesday evening at different locations around Pahrump. If you would like to check them out but can't make it to the show, contact Compton at 209-6639 for times and locations of gatherings or email pahrumpswap@sbcglobal.net.

The next 6 p.m. Wednesday get-togethers are scheduled for Sept. 20 at Burger King, Sept. 27 at Sonic, Oct. 4 at McDonald's and Oct. 11 at Taco Bell.

To get a space to show your car, the cost is $10, but just to walk around and enjoy the event, an entry fee of $3 per person is required. All types of cars will be shown, so bring the kids and enjoy a few hours from the past.
