Local businesses seek to conform to new land uses
Owners of Pahrump businesses, some dating back to the 1970s, appeared before the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission Wednesday to rezone their property under the new master plan. They were, for the most part, successful.

Wild West Extravaganza is back
Are you ready for some fun? The third annual Wild West Extravaganza will be held Sept. 22-24 in the area next to the Saddle West. The event begins on Friday at noon and ends on Sunday at 4 p.m.

A property owner who wanted to build a full-scale hotel and casino on 55 acres at Wilson Road and Leslie Street was allowed to withdraw the application without prejudice after opposition at the Pahrump Regional Planning Commission meeting Wednesday.

Cemetery records update under way
Several members of the Pahrump Genealogical Society are in the process of updating the Chief Tecopa Cemetery records, and they hope to have an updated records book completed by May.

Focus Group back on county agenda
Interviews with two remaining candidates for Nye County manager will take place Monday, continuing discussions about the development agreement with Focus Property Group Tuesday and other planning matters Wednesday, as county commissioners hold three days of meetings next week at the Pahrump Community Center.

Tree delivery set for October
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension master gardeners are sponsoring a delivery of one-gallon size trees and shrubs from the Nevada Division of Forestry plant material center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 14. Pre-orders are required and will be taken until noon Oct. 10 at the Cooperative Extension office, 1651 E. Calvada Blvd.

Sheriff's Office studies Charger as future option
The Nye County Sheriff's Office is currently in the process of testing a 2006 Dodge Charger to see if it might would want to use that vehicle in the future. Sheriff's personnel are looking into the Charger because it is a V6, or two fewer cylinders than the Ford Crown Victorias that are used by the force. That might allow for some savings in fuel costs.
