CLASS A VOLLEYBALL Beatty wins three at Pyramid Lake
Beatty's volleyball team responded to having to take a long bus ride to Pyramid Lake as if it were simply a walk through the park. The Lady Hornets swept the host Lakers, Gerlach, and Sparks Excel Christian Saturday, to move their record to 6-6. Coach Mike Duszynski's team defeated Pyramid Lake 25-17, 25-23; Gerlach 25-20, 12-25, 15-7, and Excel 25-15, 25-10. "We took 19 girls on the trip and they all played," said the veteran coach. "Several junior varsity players went with us and filled in nicely for us. And we had a freshman, Jessica Cummings, who did a great job of serving, getting eight or nine points in a row for us. "Charlie Underwood had a lot of blocks and put-downs, and Naomi Cruz's setting was key, too," said the coach. "Autumn Spicer made some big plays for us as well." The Hornets go on the road again Friday, playing at Lone Pine, Calif. The following Friday, Beatty travels to Big Pine, Calif., in preparation for its home opener Sept. 28 against Henderson Warren-Walker. "We're starting to find a regular starting line-up and it's looking good," said Duszynski. "We're getting blocking at the net and that has helped our floor defense. It's been fun for the girls." |
