Busbee wins Nugget's free-roll poker tourney; four events remaining
Buzz Busbee, almost eliminated at the sixth level, rallied to win the seventh in a series of World Series of Poker No-Limit Hold'em free roll qualifying tournament Saturday at the Nugget. Busbee received 10 points and earned $1,000 for his victory against 19 opponents. Tom Duke finished second, recording five points and a $500 payoff. In the top five were Skip Woodland, third, three points, $300; Patti Franzen, fourth, two points, $200, and Don McDermott, fifth, one point, $100. To qualify for the eighth free roll tournament in the series, players must compete in at least 40 hours of live play at the Nugget in September. The October tournament will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 14; subsequent tournaments are Nov. 11, Dec. 9, and Jan. 13. The final tournament -- to determine a Pahrump representative in the 2007 World Series of Poker -- is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 24. Dates for the 2007 WSOP have yet to be announced.
