UNLV wins opener; to play at Iowa State
LAS VEGAS -- David Peoples scored two touchdowns and wide receiver Ryan Wolfe set a UNLV freshman record with 160 yards as the Rebels beat Idaho State 54-10 Saturday night. Wolfe caught six passes, including a 71-yarder from Rocky Hinds early in the fourth quarter to lift the Rebels to their first season-opening victory since 2003. UNLV plays at Iowa State Saturday, with kickoff at 4 p.m. PT. Peoples' short scoring runs helped end the half with 27 straight points. Erick Jackson added a 29-yard scoring run and Hinds scrambled for a 7-yard touchdown. Hinds, a Southern California transfer, was 24-for-42 for 322 yards. He also had six carries for 42 yards. UNLV's defense forced five turnovers and added two touchdowns late in the contest. Jeremy Geathers returned a fumble 67 yards for a score and Ryan Worthen returned a blocked punt 12 yards for another TD. Idaho State quarterback Matt Gutierrez was 17-for-32 for 260 yards with a touchdown and interception. |
