The Bureau of Land Management Elko field office recently donated computer equipment valued at more than $29,000 to Great Basin College.

Great Basin College students and staff in Pahrump and Elko are benefiting from the BLM donation of four laptop computers, a digital projector, two printers, a specialized plotter and welding equipment.

"The computers will be used at the Elko campus for the commercial drivers license (CDL) program and the plotter will be used in Pahrump for computer-aided design (CAD) classes," said Jeff Cox, director of computer services at Great Basin College. "This is a great addition to the services and classes for our students."

Marie Smith, BLM Elko field office property manager, said the donation of computers to colleges or trade schools above the twelfth grade is authorized under the Stevenson Wyler Act.

"Because of government computer system upgrades, the equipment would not work with our new operating systems, so donating them to Great Basin College was a good fit," she said.
