Pahrump Valley's volleyball team, plagued by inconsistency all season, closed its Southern Nevada Class 3-A League campaign Thursday night against Boulder City.

The Lady Eagles defeated Overton Moapa Valley in their previous match; Pahrump Valley went 0-2 against the Lady Pirates, but did knock off Boulder City earlier this season.

The Southern regionals will be played Nov. 3 at Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite. The regional champion will advance to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association-sanctioned playoffs, to be contested Nov. 10-11 at Galena High School in Reno.

Las Vegas Faith Lutheran is assured of the No. 1 seed as the regular-season champion, with the Crusaders out to defend their regional title at Mesquite.

The likely first-round pairings will be Faith Lutheran vs. Pahrump Valley and Boulder City vs. Moapa Valley, with matches at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The title match is at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, the PV girls won 22-25, 25-6, 27-25, 25-13 at Pahranagat Valley Alamo, the defending state Class A champion.

"We lost the first game through the same type of errors that continue to plague us -- difficulty with serve receive," said first-year coach Richard Barker. "Our digging was much better. With the quality of passing and digging among the teams we compete with, we still have room for improvement in that area."

Pahrump Valley got strong performances from Angelica Villa (16 assists, eight digs) and Brittney Lindgren (32 digs) and benefitted from the return of a healthy Michelle Dannenberger to the lineup. Dannenberger had 12 kills and 13 digs.

"Kristi Daffer did a superb job of playing backrow defense, getting 18 digs -- not bad for a middle blocker," said Barker. Daffer also had 12 kills and two blocks.

Frankie Beatty added two blocks, a service ace and seven digs, with Taylor Lau getting four kills, two aces and three digs. Karen Visser had five kills and 14 digs.

The Pahrump Valley High School boys and girls cross country teams are in Laughlin this morning, competing in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A Regionals. Mountain View Park is the site.

The schedule:

10 a.m. -- Class 2-A boys;

10:35 a.m. -- Class 3-A boys;

11:15 a.m. -- Class 2-A girls;

Noon -- Class 3-A girls.

The top two teams and the top three finishers from non-qualifying teams will advance to the state championship meet, to be contested Nov. 4 at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.

The Trojans are coached by Richard Andersen, who expected to put full boys' and girls' teams into the field to go up against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, Boulder City, Overton Moapa Valley and Mesquite Virgin Valley.
