Members of the Stand Tall Don't Fall youth organization, affiliated with the Nye County Communities Coalition, and the Nye County Sheriffs Office recently joined forces to check on local retailers' compliance with underage drinking laws in Beatty, Lathrop Wells and Amargosa Valley.

Friday, Oct. 20, a 16-year-old girl was sent into several establishments where she attempted to purchase alcohol.

If she was refused the alcohol, the compliant business or employee received a jacket and other items as a reward for following the law.

If the sale was illegally completed, then the seller was issued a $1,632 citation for selling to a minor.

Businesses that were in compliance with the law were Fort Amargosa, LongStreet Casino, Amargosa Country Store, Death Valley Nut and Candy Co., Beatty 76 gas station, and the Beatty Club.

The following establishments sold alcohol to the minor, according to the Sheriff's Office, and were cited: Nevada Joe's in Lathrop Wells, Stagecoach Hotel and Casino, and the Sourdough Saloon.
