Pahrump Valley's girls maintained their hold on second place in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A League in soccer Saturday, outrunning visiting Ely White Pine 5-0.

Coach Steve Coleman's team is now 4-1-2 (14 points) in the league, not including its game at Overton Moapa Valley Tuesday.

Pahrump Valley's remaining games are Oct. 23 at home against Las Vegas Faith Lutheran and Oct. 25 at home against Mesquite Virgin Valley.

The standings, as of Monday, were:

1. Faith Lutheran, 5-0-1, 16 points.

2. Pahrump Valley, 4-1-2, 14.

3. Boulder City, 4-1-1, 13.

4. Ely White Pine, 3-4-0, 9.

5. Overton Moapa Valley, 2-4-0, 6;

6. Mesquite Virgin Valley, 0-8-0, 0.

The top four teams qualify for the Southern 3-A regionals, to be played Nov. 2 and 4 at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas. The top two teams go back to the Wilson fields Nov. 10-11 for the state tournament.

"We have been disappointed the last two years with what has happened to us at the regionals," said Coleman, "We are working hard at getting prepared for that tournament ... I am pleased with the way we are coming along."

Crystal Lopez scored two goals, while Stephanie Ledford, Brittany Orr and Emily Poertner added one each for the Lady Trojans, who were even more impressive defensively against the Bobcats. Alexis Zimmerle and Alexis Abou-Halana each played a half as goalkeeper and faced only one shot each.

"This is a young team this season, with only two seniors -- Casey Burtenshaw and Hannah Smith," said Coleman.

Pahrump Valley's boys took the long trip to Ely Saturday and lost 2-1 to the Bobcats, falling to 5-3-1 in the league.

Coach Gene Smith's team is in fourth place in the seven-team league. The standings:

1. Faith Lutheran, 7-0-1, 22 points;

2. Ely White Pine, 7-2-1, 22;

3. Boulder City, 6-2-1, 19;

4. Pahrump Valley, 5-3-1, 16;

5. Mesquite Virgin Valley, 2-7-0, 6;

6. Overton Moapa Valley, 1-6-1, 4;

7. Las Vegas The Meadows, 0-8-1, 1.

The PV boys played at home against Moapa Valley Tuesday; on Oct. 23, they will go to Faith Lutheran, and on Oct. 25, Virgin Valley visits for the league finale.

The playoff situation is the same for the PV boys. The top four teams will go to the Wilson Complex to play first-round games Nov. 2. The winners automatically qualify for state and will play for the South's No. 1 seed on Nov. 4. The state tournament is Nov. 10-11.
