AT THE NUGGET Dole on top in free-roll poker
Butch Dole, fighting off back-to-back all-in challenges by Tom Duke, won the Nugget No-Limit Hold'em poker free roll tournament Saturday. Dole won with kings and deuces in the final hand, after Duke went all-in for the second straight hand when it was heads-up. It was the eighth in a series of 12 monthly free-roll tournaments designed to determine a Pahrump representative in the 2007 World Series of Poker. The next tournament is Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.; to qualify, players must participate in at least 40 hours of live play at the Nugget in October. Dole, in his first free roll, earned 10 points and $1,000 for his victory in the tournament, which had 20 qualifiers. Duke was second for the third time in this series; he now has 15 points and is tied for third with Jim Robertson. Completing the top five Saturday were Rob Reddick, third; Rob Lisull, fourth, and Carmen Lombardozzi, fifth. Reddick is tied for ninth with five points, while Lisull, one of the previous winners, has 14 points and is ranked fifth. The payoffs are $500 for second, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $100 for fifth. The top 20 players will compete for the seat in February. A total of $16,800 has been paid out to top five finishers in the eight tournaments. |
