LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Jack Reeves (Jack) Reeves made my Sundays at the Saddle West the best time I had every week. We all loved his show and the way he mingled with people. His band was great and well-known by name to everyone. They sang the songs people requested. His sons were great. Please bring him and his band back to us in Pahrump. He is greatly missed and loved by many people. I want to say hello to Bert. He also was great in the band and not forgotten. Patricia Pellicano 'Pathetic benefit' Thursday evening my husband and I attended what we thought would be a great turnout for a good cause. We were informed, through a casual conversation with our insurance agent, that the Kiwanis Club was sponsoring a benefit to raise money for the firefighters at Saddle West parking lot -- they would have music, vendors, food, etc. Since my husband and I are newcomers to Pahrump, whenever we read about something going on, we go. So we went and were totally dismayed to find no vendors and about 30 people. We stood there for awhile, thinking we were too early. We finally went over to the one and only food stand and got something to eat. In talking to the ladies at the stand, we found out the food vendor backed out at the last minute and the Saddle West had to take over. Thank God, because it was the only food stand with beverages. These people said they didn't know anything about this fundraiser until they were told to go outside and sell food. We didn't see any ads anywhere, not the paper, no fliers in stores. What a pathetic shame. For something as important as this and nobody cared about advertising the event. I daresay, though, the Wild West Extravaganza and the Fall Festival were advertised all over the place. It's too bad they could not have gotten some people from the casino to come out and put money in the bucket. dolores deangelis Ashamed of yourselves? Now isn't that just typical Pahrump? Your contest for singers at the Fall Festival brings in a professional entertainer from Las Vegas and let's them win the $1,000 first prize. Boy, ya just gotta love the ethics in Pahrump. Next year, just hold the contest at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the pros won't have so far to drive. Ashamed of yourselves? You should be. Wayne fritsen We need voter receipts Recently Robert Kennedy Jr., the nephew of President Kennedy, was on the Neil Cavuto show on the Fox news program. He has written a book which claims our elections are all a fraud, because the touch screen voting machines we use can be hacked into in less than one minute, and this is a proven fact, that unless we have a paper trail, then any election can be fixed. Chris Matthews was recently on the Bill Maher program on HBO and the election fraud voting subject was discussed, and everyone agreed that the touch screen voting machines are easily hacked into, and the way to combat this situation is to have each voter receive a receipt with the vote number and the names of each candidate, which correspond to the vote number in the machine. These receipts must all be deposited in a secured box to protect the secrecy of the ballot and can be used as an accurate count in the event the machines have been manipulated or hacked into. Without this sort of paper trail, we will never know if any of our elections are actually the will of the people or just a manipulation. If this system had been in place during Nye County's primary election last Aug. 15, then some of these strange vote totals could be checked out accurately. Anyone who does not want a paper trail as a checks and balance system against voter fraud must be part of the problem. Our elected officials should all be voted in by the people, not hacked in by the criminals. Samuel l. jones Someone's in big trouble How can a person go from one year of unsupervised probation for something that happened (innocently, I might add) over 38 years ago to a Tier 2 sexual predator? I don't know either, but that's exactly what happened to my friend when Tony DeMeo's boys showed up at his door last week to haul him off to jail for not registering his change of address with them during verification. Of course, they knew right where to find him so, obviously somebody down at the Sheriff's station had his address. Maybe they looked him up in the phone book. Yeah, that's it. This dangerous predator is hiding his whereabouts but puts his name and address in the phone book. Then Tony's PR folks made a big splash on their Web site about how the sheriff was rounding up all the bad, bad people in town with my friend's name and picture prominently displayed. This caused him to be let go from a job that he really enjoyed. Well, guess what? The records from that long, long ago time are on their way to Pahrump; the lawyer is retained; somebody's gonna be in big trouble. chris jordan Idol competition thanks For those volunteers of the Idol competition, this goes out to you.
