Country store anniversary

Windrock Ranch/IFA Country Store & Trailer Sales will celebrate its first anniversary from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 4779 Bell Vista.

A.A.U.W. meeting

The first meeting of the A.A.U.W. (Silver Valley Chapter) will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday.

October calendar

The October class schedule for Family to Family Connection, located at 160 S. Emery, is as follows:

Thursday -- Family vehicle safety program class (registration is required and there is a fee).

Friday -- CPR class (registration is required and there is a fee).

Oct. 27 -- Closed for Nevada Day.

Oct. 30 -- Halloween safety, 1 p.m. (free glow sticks).

Oct. 31 -- WIC, PAT and Family to Family Halloween Day, 1 p.m. (wear costumes).

Parenting class is at 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Playgroup is at noon every Thursday.

Fall rummage sale

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church will hold its fall rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 650 South Blagg Road.

Lunch will be available for purchase both days, with a lot of cookies and goodies.

National Finals Rodeo tickets raffle

Sheriff Tony DeMeo won two tickets for the National Finals Rodeo to be held Dec. 3 at the Thomas and Mack Center at UNLV.

The tickets have been valued anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000; 100 raffle tickets will be sold for $25 (five raffle tickets per person maximum). The winner will be picked Thanksgiving day.

Oktoberfest rescheduled

The sixth annual United Way Oktoberfest, originally scheduled for Oct. 14, has been rescheduled for Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Honeysuckle Park.

There will be live music, games and a most beautiful stein contest. Dinner is $6 and includes brats, sauerkraut and potato salad. Beer and soft drinks will be available.

VFW October calendar

The October calendar of events for the VFW Post 10054 on Homestead Road is as follows: domestic beer $1.25, bottle beer $1.50, draft $1.25 every Thursday; and full menu lunches served by Dennis from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

No dinners or breakfasts will be served until further notice.

Toys for Tots, No to Abuse fundraiser

A fundraiser to benefit Toys for Tots and No to Abuse will be held Nov. 4 at Horizon Academy in Amargosa Valley.

Sponsored by the Horizon Academy Student Council, the event will feature raffles, a car wash, a baked goods auction and a lot of Mexican food. Lunch is free for anyone who donates an unwrapped toy.

In addition to the fundraiser, Horizon Academy will conduct an open house to give the public a chance to tour the campus and talk to staff and students.

Both events will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the baked goods auction to take place at 1 p.m. Fundraising events will be held at the academy's south parking lot, located on the corner of Highway 373 and Mecca Road.

Early childhood screening

The Nye County School District has a responsibility to locate, assess and identify children ages 3 to 5 who are not enrolled in any school program and who may have some kind of developmental delays.

If your child is currently being served through Nevada Early Intervention, please contact the district about 90 days prior to your child turning 3 years of age.

If you live in Pahrump, to make an appointment for an evaluation for your child for either Nov. 17 or Dec. 1, please call the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) office at 751-2638. The new office is located at 2200 S. Mt. Charleston Drive West.

Join Girl Scout Troop No. 169

Girl Scout Troop No. 169 has many openings for girls in grades four through nine to make a Junior/Cadette Group.

Meetings are held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays at Mt. Charleston Elementary School in the multi-purpose room, located on Idaho (between Pahrump Valley Boulevard and Dandelion).

Girl Scouts nut sale

The Girl Scouts are currently selling nuts at Wal-Mart, Albertson's and Ace Hardware.

For sale are Girl Scout tins; cashews; seasoned almonds; chocolate-covered toffee bits, raisins and peanuts; peanut squares, malted milk balls, salsa mix and S'mores mix; prices range from $4 to $5.

Veterans benefits

Get answers about your veterans benefits free of charge from the Disabled American Veterans' mobile service office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the VFW Post 10054, 4651 S. Homestead Road.

Soil disclosure workshop

Nye County will host a Soil Disclosure Ordinance workshop for realtors from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bob Ruud Community Center, 150 N. Highway 160.

Adoption training

A pre-service training schedule for foster/adoptive parents will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Saddle West Hotel and Casino.

Foster/adoptive applicants (all adult caretakers in the home) must complete the entire training.

Safe Place seeking donated office space

Safe Place, an organization in Pahrump that provides immediate help and support to youth in crisis, is looking for donated office space that would adequately accommodate youth drop-ins and storage for supplies and donations.

Safe Place provides services for youth, such as crisis intervention, shelter, job placement, food vouchers, hygiene products, transportation and much more.

'Conversations with God' screenings

"Conversations with God," adapted from books by Donald Neale Walsh, will be screened at 7 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday at Ancient Secrets and Universal Wisdom Church, 1230 S. Loop Road.
