The Pahrump Town Board has unanimously agreed to recommend to the Nye County Board of Commissioners that they approve a section regarding impact fees in the Pechstein Ranch/DevLand Inc. development project. The proposed project is an equestrian community that will be located at Irene Street and Lola Lane and cover 445 acres. The development will have 16 acres of bridle path, and indoor riding arena, 305 single family homes, and 10 acres of open space. A letter from Lennard Grodzinsky, principal of the RGR group to Nye County Acting Planning Director Cheryl Beeman said the value of a completed home in the community would be in excess of $500,000 and that the development is expected to bring over $1 million per year into the town. Before approving the motion, when Chairman Richard Billman asked if there was any discussion from the board, Paul Willis joked, "I want to say that I can't believe this group has the audacity to come in here and give up everything we want and more." Also at the meeting, the board agreed to extend the Nye County Communications Department's lease of town property from 10 to 99 years. The property, located behind Station No. 2 of the Fire-Rescue Service, is being used to house communications equipment for law enforcement agencies and public safety. The extension of the lease agreement was one of two options originally proposed by the county in an effort to acquire the property from the town, in part due to the amount of money they have invested in it in terms of equipment. The county commissioners had also offered to exchange county land for the property. Board member Laurayne Murray asked commission Chairman Gary Hollis, who spoke to the board, if the commissioners wanted to keep the exchange option open for the future. Hollis said it did not matter which option the board chose, as long as they had more time on the lease. The board then deleted the exchange option from the agreement and unanimously approved extending the lease. The board also unanimously approved two grants. The first grant is not to exceed $3,320 and will be used to fund the Power Desert Rodeo Co.'s advertising costs for the Crazy 8's Bull Ride Oct. 14. The second grant was for up to $5000 for advertising costs for the New Old West's Bucking Bulls first annual New Year's Eve Bull Blowout. |
