PV kickers tie, lose against Boulder City

Pahrump Valley's soccer teams went 0-1-1 in Southern Nevada Class 3-A League games against Boulder City Thursday.

While the girls gained a 1-1 tie with the Eagles, the PV boys lost 1-0.

Cristal Velasquez scored the only goal for the Lady Trojans, now 2-1-2 (8 points) in league games. The Lady Trojans are in fourth place, trailing Faith Lutheran (4-0-1, 13), Boulder City (4-1-1, 13), and White Pine (3-2-0, 9). The Pahrump Valley girls are at home against White Pine at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Moapa Valley is 1-4-0, 3, with Virgin Valley 0-6-0, 0.

The boys fell to 4-2-1 (13 points), while Boulder City is 4-2-1 (13). Las Vegas Faith Lutheran is first at 6-0-1 (19 points), while Ely White Pine is 5-1-1 (16). Pahrump Valley, which traveled to The Meadows (0-7-1, 1) Tuesday, plays at White Pine Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.

Mesquite Virgin Valley's boys are 2-5-0, 6, with Overton Moapa Valley at 0-4-1, 1. Teams are awarded three points for a victory, one for a tie.

In a 2.75-mile race contested at Henderson Tuesday, nine Pahrump Valley runners competed -- the most in one day for the team coached by Richard Andersen.

In the boys' race, David Jacobi was 25th out of 57, completing the course in 17 minutes, 36 seconds. Just four seconds back in 29th place was Daniel Spradlin.

Gabe Veloz was 47th in 19:23; Josh Armendariz was 49th in 19:34, and Scott Moser, despite being ill, was 54th in 20:35.

For the girls, McKenzie Dean was second in 18:20. Finishing 30th in a field of 50 was Nicole Dillon, in 23:41.

Stephanie Andros was 37th in 24:20, and Tiffany Kelley was 38th in 24:22.

The Pahrump Valley freshmen football team defeated the visiting Mesquite Virgin Valley frosh 60-12 Thursday.

Matt Marshall scored five touchdowns and rushed for 285 yards for Pahrump Valley, which had Greg Shipnee tally two touchdowns. Nick Murphy and James Lucas added one TD each.
