Trojan booters sweep Bulldogs

Pahrump Valley's boys moved to 4-1-1 in Southern Nevada Class 3-A soccer, dominating homestanding Mesquite Virgin Valley 4-0 Tuesday.

Jeff Holley scored two goals, while Daimon Nelson and Erik Rodriguez (on a header) added one each for the Trojans. Coach Gene Smith's team is tied with Ely White Pine for second; each has 13 points, while first-place Las Vegas Faith Lutheran is 5-0-1 (16 points). Boulder City, who played at Pahrump Valley Thursday, is fourth at 3-2-1 (10 points). Virgin Valley is 2-5-0 (4), Moapa Valley 0-4-0 (0) and The Meadows 0-5-0 (0).

In the girls game, the Trojans won 5-0 to move to 2-1-1 (7) in the league. They trail Boulder City (4-0-0, 12) and Faith Lutheran (3-0-1, 10) in the standings. White Pine is 2-2-0 (6), with Moapa Valley at 1-3-0 (3) and Virgin Valley 0-6-0 (0).

Brittany Orr and Stephanie Ledford scored two goals for coach Steve Coleman's team, which had Courtney Nelson add a goal.

The top four teams in both the boys and girls divisions advance to the Southern 3-A regionals, to be played Nov. 2 and 4 at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas.

On Nov. 2, the boys semifinals match No. 1 vs. No. 4 at 6 p.m. on Field 5, with Nos. 2 and 3 clashing at 4 p.m. on the same field.

The girls' matchups are No. 1 vs. No. 4 at 6 p.m. on Field 6 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 at 4 p.m. on the same field.

Semifinal winners advance automatically to the state tournament. The championship games are at 12:30 p.m. (boys) and 10 a.m. (girls) Saturday and determine the No. 1 seed for the state tournament.

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association-sanctioned tournament will also be played at Bettye Wilson. The boys semifinals are Nov. 10, with No. 1 South playing No. 2 North and No. 2 South facing No. 1 North. Game times will be announced.

The pairings are the same for the girls' semifinalists.

Championship games will be played Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. (boys) and 12:30 p.m. (girls).
