By DON McDERMOTTPV girls close in on golf titleLEAGUE FINAL AT FAITH LUTHERAN MONDAY; 3-A REGIONALS AT MOUNTAIN FALLS OCT. 12PVT Pahrump Valley will be out to win the final Southern Nevada Class 3-A regular-season golf match of the season -- hosted by Las Vegas Faith Lutheran -- Monday. The Lady Trojans, however, can pull off that feat for the seventh time in eight years by finishing at least third. Through the first six matches, the PV girls, coached by Julie Floyd, have accumulated 58 out of a possible 60 points and lead second-place Faith Lutheran (54) by four points. Mesquite Virgin Valley is third with 50, while Boulder City has 42 and Overton Moapa Valley 12. Only in 2004 did Pahrump Valley not win the regular-season title; that honor went to Faith Lutheran, which went on to claim the regional and state championships. The defending regular-season, regional and state champion Pahrump Valley girls closed in on another regular-season title by edging Faith Lutheran 454 to 455 in a league match Thursday at the Municipal course in Boulder City. Virgin Valley had 485, Boulder City 541 and Moapa Valley 559. The Muny course was where Pahrump Valley wrapped up the 2005 state championship, the Lady Trojans' second in four years and third in eight years. Courtney Salmon and Jasper Biggs had career days, shooting 84 and 99, respectively, for the PV girls. Desiree Fortin had 80, Ashley Keller 93, Ashlee Bartholomew 98, and Hailey Forry 106 for the Trojans. Candra Sumedhatip of Faith Lutheran shot a 78 to claim medalist honors and move one step closer to Southern player of the year honors. Sumedhatip twice challenged -- futilely -- Fortin for that honor; now the Crusaders' senior No. 1 player has 69 (out of a possible 72) points in the POY standings. Fortin has 66.5; points are awarded 12 for first, 11 for second, 10 for third, and nine for fourth, down to three for 10th. Ashley Keller of Pahrump Valley is third with 51 points, while Virgin Valley's Samantha Bulloch has 48 points. In the match Thursday, Faith Lutheran's Kaitlin Main had 93, Brooke Prendes 91, Reba Schneiderman 104, Becca Reighard 95, and Shawn Haggerty 98. For Virgin Valley, Brittany Thurston had 93, Samantha Bulloch 91, Amanda Bulloch 88, Nakelle Faught 104, Hannah Bulloch 109 and Felisha Baeza 112. Ashley Vince shot 98 for Boulder City, which had Margot Potter add 103, Heidi Harteis 109, Bethany Smith 114, Tara McKeever 117 and Jessica Jones 131. For Moapa Valley, which fielded a full team for only the second time this season, Shalyce Parashants had 98, Bethany Wilson 106, Tracy Swanson 110, Ella Kuo 122, Nadia Alvidrez 123 and Belia Guzman 129.
