Dean ninth in Run the Ridge meet

McKenzie Dean was ninth in the Run the Ridge Cross Country Championships contested Saturday at Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas.

The 3.1-mile race attracted many of the area's best runners, along with the Australian Select teams that are touring the western United States. In fact, the girls' race winner in 20:20.32 was Carley Smith of the Aussies. Dean's time was 21:48.85 and the only Class 3-A girl to beat her was JoJo Stanton of Boulder City. Her time was 21:23.06.

In the team standings, Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial was first with 38 points. Henderson Green Valley had 66, Australia Select 83, Shadow Ridge 103, Vo-Tech 107, Boulder City 145 and Rancho 177.

The Pahrump Valley boys were sixth in the meet, totaling 135 points. Green Valley had 34 to win, with Vo-Tech at 44, Cimarron-Memorial 83, Rancho 107 and Shadow Ridge 111.

For coach Richard Andersen's boys' team, David Jacobi was 14th in 20:29.69. Daniel Spradlin was 22nd in 21:08.97; Gabe Veloz was 36th in 23:67.41. Dylan Dance, Noah Poulos and Scott Moser were in the top 48 runners.

Pahrump Valley is to run at Green Valley Thursday.
