Wolf Pack claws the Aggies
RENO -- Linebacker Joshua Mauga forced one fumble and recovered another to lead Nevada to a 48-21 win over New Mexico State Saturday. Running back Robert Hubbard ran for 114 yards and a touchdown, and receiver Caleb Spencer caught two more scoring passes for Nevada (5-3, 2-2 WAC). Starting with quarterback Jeff Rowe's 6-yard TD run 9:18 before halftime, the Wolf Pack scored 35 consecutive points. New Mexico State (2-6, 0-4 WAC) has not won a WAC game since joining the league last year. The Aggies also have lost 19 straight games to Division 1-A opponents. Three Nevada quarterbacks each threw a touchdown pass and combined for 230 yards passing, helping to overcome four Wolf Pack turnovers, including three interceptions. Nevada's defense also forced five turnovers, leading to 28 points. Both Rowe and Chase Holbrook, New Mexico State's starting quarterback, were knocked out of the game with injuries. Linebacker Tim McManigal returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown for New Mexico State, but the Aggies' defense yielded 466 yards of total offense. Mike McCoy caught an 8-yard TD pass that put Nevada up 28-7 just 3 seconds before halftime. Spencer then scored his second touchdown of the day on a 9-yard pass from backup quarterback Travis Moore early in the second half. The Wolf Pack is at Idaho Saturday, then plays at home against Utah State Nov. 11. |
