FISHING
KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Good fishing continues for largemouth bass at Adams-McGill, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Trout fishing is fair to good in all three reservoirs. Thunderstorms have been moving through the area. Anglers and campers are advised to use caution. LAKE MEAD -- Top-water action for striped bass has slowed. Most of the fish caught over the past week have been taken with cut bait such as anchovies. Some top-water fishing is still being found in the Las Vegas Wash area. Striper fishing along the Special Events and Sail beaches has dropped off significantly. Catfish are being taken with anchovies and other baits by shore fishermen in an area that extends from Swallow Cove to Callville Bay. High temperatures continue to keep many anglers off the water in the Overton Arm. Some early morning anglers near Overton Beach reported catching 43 stripers in just two hours using 2 1/2-ounce Anchovie Dart lures. LAKE MOHAVE -- Hot weather has dampened fishing pressure, a Nevada Department of Wildlife creel clerk reported. Two anglers contacted at Willow Beach on Sunday reported catching just a few trout in the early morning hours. There was a report of two large stripers caught near Willow Beach on Friday that weighed 24 and 27 pounds. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Trout fishing is good, with morning the best time for catching fish. Spinners, worms and PowerBait are the baits of choice. A 16 1/2-inch rainbow was caught by a 9-year-old girl last week. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing for largemouth bass and crappie has improved. The lake level remains low. |
