Sheriff's office closed Tuesdays, Thursdays The Nye County Sheriff's Office's records/front office division will be closed from 1-4 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday until further notice. However, dispatch may be reached at 751-7000 during the office closure if a deputy's assistance is needed. Heat kills pets The Nye County Animal Shelter reminds the community that pets should never be left in cars as that puts their lives at great risk. The temperature inside a parked car can reach 140 degrees in just a few minutes. Even leaving water for pets is not enough to keep them from overheating and having a stroke. Keep pets at home unless they have a vet or grooming appointment. The shelter has seen one puppy death and three animals with heatstroke. Animal Control is actively citing those who leave their pets in parked cars. Assistant volunteer coordinator needed The Nye County School District volunteer coordinator's office is looking for someone to volunteer as an assistant in the office. If you enjoy meeting people, this is the place to do it. Additionally, clerical skills are helpful. Please contact the volunteer coordinator's office from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays to apply at 727-7743, ext. 258 or 259.
