Directors of the Miss Pahrump Pageant, anticipating the event's 30th anniversary in Pahrump, are conducting a schedule of contestant reviews, day trips, parties and practice sessions leading up to the pageant at the Saddle West on Aug. 5.

Twelve high school seniors compete for the title of "queen," just as they have for the past 29 years. But the pageant really exists to encourage each girl's learned self-confidence and natural beauty.

Its purpose is to enable each participant to fully develop her potential and come to more highly estimate her self-worth.

The pageant also is intended to promote the girls' voices in the community's politics and culture.

In the pageant's activities and workshops, it is hoped that each girl will gain the benefits shared experiences for future use in employment and other areas of life.

Stress is placed on community involvement and public service throughout the pageant, according to the directors in the pageant's mission statement.

Practice for the essay competition is scheduled for the Pahrump Community Library Aug. 2 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Dress rehearsal for the talent competition begins at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. at the Saddle West Casino on Aug. 3. The talent competition is open to family and friends of the participants.

Dress rehearsal for the show on the day before the event at the Saddle West, Aug. 4, begin at 10:30 a.m.

The interview and photogenic competition is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 (the location yet to be arranged).

The evening pageant begins at 6 p.m. on Aug. 5. The doors will open at 5 p.m.
