FISHING REPORT

LAKE MEAD

Threadfin shad have started to appear along the shoreline in some areas of the Boulder Basin, and that means top-water action for striped bass. Small striper that are chasing the schools of the baitfish are being caught off Boulder Beach, Government Wash, Gypsum Wash, as well throughout the entire Las Vegas Wash area.

Anglers are advised to use caution when driving the roads along Boulder Beach and the Hemenway Wash area. Recent thunderstorms have washed out the roads in a number of spots.

Extreme temperatures over the last week in the Overton Arm have chased most anglers from the lake, with Echo Bay recording a daytime high of 124 degrees last Sunday. The few nighttime fishers contacted reported the catch has switched from black bass to striper. The best success is being found around Stewarts Point, Ann Marguret Beach and the Echo Islands. The fish were caught on jerk baits. Some bluegills were also caught.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Anglers continue to enjoy excellent fishing for largemouth bass at Adams-McGill, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs and bass fishing should stay good through the heat of the summer. Trout fishing remains fair to good in all three reservoirs. Haymeadow and Cold Springs Reservoirs are at maximum levels while Adams McGill is down about 12 inches. Access remains good for boat launching.

Daytime temperatures have risen to the low 100's, with the evening lows in the 50s, so area visitors should be prepared for the wide range of temperatures.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Trout fishing has improved to fair as the lake water has cleared after thunderstorms left the area.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Fishing for largemouth bass and crappie has been fair to good. Trout fishing has slowed with the arrival of triple digit summer temperatures. The water level in the lake remains low, but access is still good for shore anglers, float tubers and small boats.

LAKE MOHAVE

Two dozen anglers fished under intense heat during Friday's rainbow trout plants at Willow Beach. The US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Nevada Department of Wildlife both conducted plants, however only a few limits were taken before the fish moved off into deeper water.

URBAN PONDS

Channel catfish were to be stocked Thursday in ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas, Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City and Hafen Park in Mesquite.
