Woman's truck runs over, kills her
TONOPAH -- An Alamo woman was run over and killed by her own pickup truck when she tried to stop it from rolling down a hill with a 10-year-old girl inside. Shara Blevins, 62, stopped her 1999 Dodge on Hancock Summitt on State Route 375 about 75 miles southeast of Tonopah on Tuesday. She got out of the truck to stretch, leaving Erika Blevins inside. The truck began to roll from it's stopped position, so the woman attempted to stop the vehicle by placing herself in front of it, Nevada Highway Patrol Sgt. Roy Baughman said. The truck ran over her, killing her, and continued down the hill striking the guard rail several times before coming to rest about 2,000 feet away, he said. Ms. Blevins was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to a funeral home in Caliente. The girl remained in the truck as it rolled down the hill and was not injured. Authorities did not immediately know the relationship between Ms. Blevins and the girl. The crash remains under investigation, Baughman said. |
