By MARY BALDASANOPahrump's own Dolly is on stageSPECIAL TO THE PVT
If you weren't at the Saddle West Saturday night, you missed a great show. Local performer Roxanne Sanderson and her band Stetzen performed what can only be called a full repertoire of country music that the crowd greatly enjoyed. With a new dance floor in place -- a real dance floor, not a postage stamp -- the crowd missed no opportunity to get on the floor and swing their partners. Singing songs from Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks, Wynona Judd and even more classic country, Roxanne and band members Dan Sanderson (her husband, on guitar/harmonica), Steve Gall (steel guitar), Tommy Lee (Roxanne's father, on bass guitar), Mike Mahoney (band leader and lead guitar), and Joe Willet (drums) brought back memories for all in attendance. "I've been in a band since I was 3 years old," said Sanderson. "My parents started the original Stetzen band 23 years ago. They retired and the members moved on to other bands like Hot Cargo. For the last few years, we have been working on putting Stetzen back together. We get along great and we're working on new songs." Sanderson and Stetzen won the Battle of the Bands at the National Finals Rodeo last year. They have played various lounge venues in Las Vegas and now the Saddle West has brought them back to Pahrump as part of their new program for getting more entertainment in their newly designed lounge. They've also played with performers such as Toby Keith, Wynona Judd and Sammy Kirshaw. "Tulsa Time," sung by Steve Gall, was just as good as the original and was a real crowd pleaser. Two-steppers and other dancers filled the floor. Another hit was "Working Man Blues," sung by Dan Sanderson, that captured the heart of every working and retired man in attendance. Roxanne's interpretation of "Let it Rip, Let it Fly" showed energy and flair. Ryley Young, director of operations at Saddle West said, "The lounge is just one of the changes coming to the Saddle West. We are also redoing the café and have changed the buffet area by putting new equipment in place in a much better design. We also have a top chef on." 07/19/2006 11 MARY BALDASANO / SPECIAL TO THE PVTRoxanne Sanderson performs with the Stetzen Band. STF .jpg 8 |
