Auto racing in limbo

7 Auto racing in the Pahrump Valley is in limbo. Depending on who fans talk to, the Pahrump Valley Speedway will open on time in February ... or it will be closed indefinitely and eventually be plowed under.

The quarter-mile dirt track has ownership problems, with three entities involved in that dilemma. And until that situation is settled, who knows what will happen?

If the track is to be ready for paying customers in 2007, much work will have to be done. According to one source, the track will open in February; another says it will not happen.

Rebuilding restrooms, ridding the site of unsightly junk, reconditioning any still-existing equipment, or replacing it has to be accomplished.

Graders, water trucks and other pieces of equipment essential to the repair and preparation of the track for a busy schedule have to be in place.

Reportedly, several drivers have already made plans to compete elsewhere, while still others have decided to either retire or park their equipment indefinitely (which means some have taken a wait-and-see posture).

Stay tuned ...
